The Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) offers a wide range of activities from sailing and canoeing, rock climbing, engineering, IT and communications, to music and cookery. The Corps aims to encourage good citizenship, provide worthwhile qualifications (including The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and BTEC) and build Cadets experience and sense of adventure. Sea Cadets have the opportunity to learn life skills whilst having fun and making great friends.
There are over 1500 Sea Cadets in the London area in up to 50 units. Most units have junior sections for 10-12 year olds to get you started. If you're over 13 you can opt for the Marine Cadet Detachment and get to grips with the commando skills of the Royal Marines. Whatever you do it’s fun and adventure wet or dry for young people up to the age of 18.
The rank structure is modelled on that of the Royal Navy, giving Sea Cadets an opportunity to progress and take up positions of responsibility as they acquire skills and seniority. On reaching 18, many Sea Cadets choose to stay on as Adult Instructors, when their training and talents become invaluable.
Adults can also join the Sea Cadets as Adult Instructors. No previous military experience is needed, just plenty of enthusiasm.
