Since 2015, the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme in South East London has been going from strength to strength. Over the years, we have seen an impressive increase of passes- 62 Bronze and 20 Silvers and after much hard work and dedication, one Cadet and two ex-Cadets achieved golds!
Our Golden winners were: Cdt Sgt Maj Dannielle Searle, NUV Diavian Frame and Danyelle Shobanjo. On Monday 13th May 2019, they were invited to Buckingham Palace to have their incredible achievements presented to them! All three of the winners were congratulated by Princess Beatrice and had their certificates presented to them by James and Oliver Phelps, the actors who played Fred and George Weasley in the Harry Potter films.
When interviewed, all three of the Cadets agreed that the most difficult part of the challenge was completing the expedition section. They joked that perhaps it was their city background that made them struggle against the harsh heights and muddy mess that is the English countryside! Despite the trepidatious journey, there was a lot of time to socialise with other Cadets! The completion of the trek was however a relief for all three!
