	Greater London RFCA</h1>
<p>
	The Reserve Forces&#39; and Cadets&#39; Association for Greater London (GL RFCA)&nbsp;is the focal point of activity and administration for reserves and cadets of all three Services in London. We came into existence in 1908 at the same time as the Territorial Army, as did 12 other autonomous Reserve Forces and Cadets Associations (RFCAs) spread throughout the United Kingdom. We were established by statute and are not part of the military chain of command but are required to give advice and assistance to the Defence Council and the three Services on Reserve and Cadet matters.</p>

	The Reserve Forces&rsquo; and Cadets&rsquo; Association for Greater London plays a leading role in strengthening the environment for reservists and cadets across London.</p>
<p>
	For over 100 years we have supported and championed London&rsquo;s reserve forces and cadets &ndash; Navy, Army and Air Force &ndash; by raising awareness and developing relationships with communities, employers and veterans. We also manage and maintain the extensive reserve and cadet estate throughout London.</p>
<p>
	This helps the combat-readiness of the reserves, enhancing the operational capability of the Armed Forces as a whole. For our cadets, we produce a safe and modern infrastructure and assist with the recruitment, administration and establishment of new units.</p>
<p>
	We do this by managing and future-proofing the 170+ buildings and facilities across the capital. We engage with local authorities, organisations and companies of all sizes, in every business sector, to advocate on behalf of the wider Armed Forces family and support London&rsquo;s cadet and youth organisations, helping opportunity and education.&nbsp;</p>

	<strong>What does GL RFCA stand for?</strong></p>
<p>
	Greater London Reserve Forces&rsquo; and Cadets&rsquo; Association. There are 12 other RFCA&rsquo;s across the UK.</p>

	<strong>How long has GL RFCA been going?</strong></p>
<p>
	We were formed in 1908 as the Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve Association, at the same time as the Territorial Army was formed. Nowadays, we have more of a tri-service and cadet focus.</p>

	<strong>Where is GL RFCA?</strong></p>
<p>
	We are based out of Fulham House, just off Putney Bridge in Fulham. We also have four Army cadet sectors across Greater London, where some of our staff are also based.</p>

	<strong>Who and what do you look after?</strong></p>

			We provide safe training facilities and buildings that are fit for the ever-changing requirements against the set military output of units.</p>

	There are around 35,000 Volunteer Reservists in the UK. Coming from all backgrounds, regions and jobs, these are men and women who use their spare time to train and serve alongside the Regular Forces. 	Youth &amp; Cadets</h1>
<p>
	All Cadet units share common ground in being youth organisations with training designed to promote teamwork, reliability and leadership with the goal of good citizenship. This is achieved through friendship, adventure and fun.</p>
<p>
	There are over 14,000 cadets across London; from the Sea Cadet Corps, the Army Cadet Force, the Air Training Corps and the Combined Cadet Force. GLRFCA provides both financial and logistical support as well as assistance and encouragement in recruiting both cadets and Adult Instructors.</p>
<p>
	We also provide support to You London, a partnership of 10 of the most established youth organisations in the capital working together to increase opportunities for all young people to access positive activities.</p>
<h2>
	School Cadet Expansion Scheme</h2>
<p>
	Launched by the Prime Minister in 2012 the School Cadet Expansion Scheme aims to grow the number of cadet units in schools across the UK to 500 by 2020.<br />
	More than 100 state schools have already laucnhed new cadet units, expanding the opportunity to join the cadets to a ever widening range of young people.</p>
<p>
	The GLRFCA has appointed a Schools Cadet Expansion Officer to help schools who are thinking about opening a cadet unit. They can offer advice about the type of unit that might be most suitable for the schools circumstances and assist them throught the process of establishing a unit.</p>
<p>

	Managing the Estate</h1>
<p>
	<span style="font-size: 12px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">GL RFCA manages all the properties and facilities used by Reserves and Cadets in Greater London, known collectively as the Volunteer Estate. We provide a complete professional maintain, sustain and change management service to the occupying units administering 194 locations within the M25.</span></span></p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size: 12px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">There are 46 Reserve Force Centres in London including one Royal Navy Reserve base, HMS President, a Royal Marines Reserve Centre, Wandsworth Barracks, as well as a Reserve unit at RAF Northolt, RAF Kenley aerodrome and some 147 Cadet establishments including four&nbsp;Cadet Training Centres.</span></span></p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size: 12px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">The Volunteer Estate ranges in style and size from listed Georgian houses to small timber buildings, from sites of tens of square metres to up to three acres. The age of properties ranges from original drill halls built at the turn of the 20th century to new purpose built facilities such as The Princess Royal House in Sutton.</span></span></p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size: 12px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">In total we manage more than 94 Ha of land including approximately 300,000m<sup>2 </sup>of built areas and 646,000m<sup>2 </sup>of landways, hardstanding and runways.</span></span></p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size: 12px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Our service includes all essential maintenance and repair, lease negotiations and assessments, as well as health and safety compliance of all assets and associated audit assurance. The GL RFCA works to establish and maintain strong relationships with employers to ensure they can realise the benefits of access to this skilled and highly motivated pool of employees.</p>

	We offer advice and support about employing members of the armed forces community and enable organisations to develop a mutually beneficial working relationship with the Ministry of Defence (MOD).</p>

	At every stage of a Reservist&rsquo;s career, there are obligations for both Reservists and employers. It&rsquo;s important to be aware of these as some are governed by law. 	<strong style="line-height: 1.2em;">EMPLOYER RECOGNITION SCHEME (ERS)</strong></h3>

	The MOD Employer Recognition Scheme was launched by the Prime Minister as part of the commitment to celebrate and reward the levels of support shown by UK employers towards Defence personnel, including Reservists, Armed Forces Veterans and their families,&nbsp;and Cadets. The scheme includes Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards for organisations demonstrating varying levels of support and alignment of their values with the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/armed-forces-covenant-supporting-information">Armed Forces Covenant.</a> You can find out whether your organisation is eligible for an ERS award by visiting&nbsp; <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/defence-employer-recognition-scheme" target="_blank">Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS)</a></p>

	Greater London RFCA</h1>
<p>
	The Reserve Forces&#39; and Cadets&#39; Association for Greater London (GL RFCA)&nbsp;is the focal point of activity and administration for reserves and cadets of all three Services in London. We came into existence in 1908 at the same time as the Territorial Army, as did 12 other autonomous Reserve Forces and Cadets Associations (RFCAs) spread throughout the United Kingdom. We were established by statute and are not part of the military chain of command but are required to give advice and assistance to the Defence Council and the three Services on Reserve and Cadet matters.</p>

	The Reserve Forces&rsquo; and Cadets&rsquo; Association for Greater London plays a leading role in strengthening the environment for reservists and cadets across London.</p>
<p>
	For over 100 years we have supported and championed London&rsquo;s reserve forces and cadets &ndash; Navy, Army and Air Force &ndash; by raising awareness and developing relationships with communities, employers and veterans. We also manage and maintain the extensive reserve and cadet estate throughout London.</p>
<p>
	This helps the combat-readiness of the reserves, enhancing the operational capability of the Armed Forces as a whole. For our cadets, we produce a safe and modern infrastructure and assist with the recruitment, administration and establishment of new units.</p>
<p>
	We do this by managing and future-proofing the 170+ buildings and facilities across the capital. We engage with local authorities, organisations and companies of all sizes, in every business sector, to advocate on behalf of the wider Armed Forces family and support London&rsquo;s cadet and youth organisations, helping opportunity and education.&nbsp;</p>

	<strong>What does GL RFCA stand for?</strong></p>
<p>
	Greater London Reserve Forces&rsquo; and Cadets&rsquo; Association. There are 12 other RFCA&rsquo;s across the UK.</p>

	<strong>How long has GL RFCA been going?</strong></p>
<p>
	We were formed in 1908 as the Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve Association, at the same time as the Territorial Army was formed. Nowadays, we have more of a tri-service and cadet focus.</p>
<p>
	<strong>Where is GL RFCA?</strong></p>
<p>
	We are based out of Fulham House, just off Putney Bridge in Fulham. We also have four Army cadet sectors across Greater London, where some of our staff are also based.</p>
<p>
	<strong>Who and what do you look after?</strong></p>

	There are around 35,000 Volunteer Reservists in the UK. Coming from all backgrounds, regions and jobs, these are men and women who use their spare time to train and serve alongside the Regular Forces. 	Youth &amp; Cadets</h1>
<p>
	All Cadet units share common ground in being youth organisations with training designed to promote teamwork, reliability and leadership with the goal of good citizenship. This is achieved through friendship, adventure and fun.</p>
<p>
	There are over 14,000 cadets across London; from the Sea Cadet Corps, the Army Cadet Force, the Air Training Corps and the Combined Cadet Force. GLRFCA provides both financial and logistical support as well as assistance and encouragement in recruiting both cadets and Adult Instructors.</p>
<p>
	We also provide support to You London, a partnership of 10 of the most established youth organisations in the capital working together to increase opportunities for all young people to access positive activities.</p>
<h2>
	School Cadet Expansion Scheme</h2>
<p>
	Launched by the Prime Minister in 2012 the School Cadet Expansion Scheme aims to grow the number of cadet units in schools across the UK to 500 by 2020.<br />
	More than 100 state schools have already laucnhed new cadet units, expanding the opportunity to join the cadets to a ever widening range of young people.</p>
<p>
	The GLRFCA has appointed a Schools Cadet Expansion Officer to help schools who are thinking about opening a cadet unit. They can offer advice about the type of unit that might be most suitable for the schools circumstances and assist them throught the process of establishing a unit.</p>
<p>

	Managing the Estate</h1>

	<span style="font-size: 12px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">GL RFCA manages all the properties and facilities used by Reserves and Cadets in Greater London, known collectively as the Volunteer Estate. We provide a complete professional maintain, sustain and change management service to the occupying units administering 194 locations within the M25.</span></span></p>

	<span style="font-size: 12px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">There are 46 Reserve Force Centres in London including one Royal Navy Reserve base, HMS President, a Royal Marines Reserve Centre, Wandsworth Barracks, as well as a Reserve unit at RAF Northolt, RAF Kenley aerodrome and some 147 Cadet establishments including four&nbsp;Cadet Training Centres.</span></span></p>

	Businesses have an important role in supporting the armed forces community as employers of Reservists, people leaving the services, and relatives of serving personnel. The GL RFCA works to establish and maintain strong relationships with employers to ensure they can realise the benefits of access to this skilled and highly motivated pool of employees.</p>

	We offer advice and support about employing members of the armed forces community and enable organisations to develop a mutually beneficial working relationship with the Ministry of Defence (MOD).</p>

	Whether your company already employ Reservists, is looking to employ skilled people leaving the Services, or simply wants to demonstrate its open and supportive approach to the armed forces community, we are here to help.</p>

	At every stage of a Reservist&rsquo;s career, there are obligations for both Reservists and employers. It&rsquo;s important to be aware of these as some are governed by law. 	<strong style="line-height: 1.2em;">EMPLOYER RECOGNITION SCHEME (ERS)</strong></h3>

	The MOD Employer Recognition Scheme was launched by the Prime Minister as part of the commitment to celebrate and reward the levels of support shown by UK employers towards Defence personnel, including Reservists, Armed Forces Veterans and their families,&nbsp;and Cadets. The scheme includes Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards for organisations demonstrating varying levels of support and alignment of their values with the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/armed-forces-covenant-supporting-information">Armed Forces Covenant.</a> You can find out whether your organisation is eligible for an ERS award by visiting&nbsp; <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/defence-employer-recognition-scheme" target="_blank">Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS)</a></p>
