Livery Companies

A record number of City of London Livery Companies have recently signed the Armed Forces Covenant confirming their support to the UK Armed Forces. Due to the numerous Livery Company affiliations with ships, shore establishments, regiments, squadrons, and other military formations, the City of London Livery Companies have a particularly strong and enduring relationship with the Crown’s Armed Forces, one that is still strong in the twenty-first century.

There are many different ways that the City and the Livery Companies support the Crown’s Armed Forces, but they are all significant and create ties that have endured for generations. In cases where the Livery Company and its affiliated military units have a clear trade, craft, or professional relationship, this relationship frequently extends to career mentoring, training, examination, and awards for excellence given by the Livery to active members of HM Forces.

In order to show gratitude and support for His Majesty’s Armed Forces as they defend and protect us, affiliative groups are established. There is much inter-action between Companies and Affiliates such as the granting of awards, exchange of visits, joint activities and dinner guest attendances. Welfare grants are often made by Company charitable funds.
